Bathory was the project of the now deceased Tomas "Ace" Börje Forsberg (Quorthon); (22 February 1966 - 7 June 2004, Heart failure). Bathory was a landmark band in the history of black metal. Most second wave black metal bands were influenced from the ground work put forth to black metal by Bathory. Around the late 80s, Bathory changed their style from black metal to what was later known as viking metal. Mixing epic music with nordic themes and viking influences.
